Even if this does demonstrate survival value, it is not my intention to demonstrate survival value. My intention is only to dress in a way I find aesthetically pleasing. Nothing else comes into it. So it is not for the same reason as someone who peacocks at all.

I mistook your definition of cool to mean different, as opposed to aesthetically pleasing to oneself, and that is the healthier attitude to have.
I wear what I wear to look different for a reason. Everyone else with the same "background" as me, all dresses the same... It's not part of my culture, or my persona, but there are many overlaps between who I am and many other cultures, so I have bits and pieces from everywhere...
