Change

Best played with 2-4 players.
Players1 and 2 start in the performance area.
If there are 3 or 4 players, Player3 and 4 start in the 'wings' and can join the scene at any point.
Get a scene suggestion.
Begin improvising.
At any moment members of the 'audience' can call out 'change', at which point the player who last spoke has to change their last line.
This game works best if when told to change, the player says something wildly different from their original line.
Avoid saying things like "I love x" "Change" "I hate x" "Change" "I'm indifferent to x" (and if you do expect the audience to repeatedly challenge you untill you say something satisfactory).
The 'audience' can repeatedly demand a player change one line any number of times.

Example:
Scene in a chemists.
Player1: Hello sir. Have you got anything for an itchy ear?
Player2: Yes, we have this cream.
Audience: Change
Player2: No we don't
Audience: Change
Player2: I'm not sure, I'll just check
Audience: Change
Player2: Heavy duty shears
Player1: Shears?
Player2: Chop it off ... it's the only way
Player1: That seems a little extreme
Audience: Change
Player1: I tried that already. Dun't work mate
Player2: Van Goch had the same problem
... the scene continues like this until it reaches a natural conclusion.

In this example the 'audience' repeatedly challenged Player2 to change because each new line was too obvious or simple.

It's only technique in its conjunction with meaningfulness that you get a work of art

Round The World (in bad accents)

Best played with 2-4 players.
Players1 and 2 start in the performance area.
If there are 3 or 4 players, Player3 and 4 start in the 'wings' and can join the scene at any point.
Get a scene suggestion.
Begin improvising.
At any moment (allowing the first minute to pass uninterrupted) members of the 'audience' can call out the name of a nation or region.
We tend to allow quite a bit of creative deviation with the suggestions e.g. a famous person, a fictional character, etc.
The players should seamlessly continue the scene in the suggested style.
... the scene continues like this until it reaches a natural conclusion.

Peace,

kowalski

Absolutely looking forward to getting stuck into this. Mega gutted that I'm missing it.

How have you guys in Manchester got on with these? Bet it's been a right laugh.

Story Tag

All the players in a circle, except Player1 who stands in the centre.
Player1 starts to tell a story.
The story must be true and personal (e.g. something that happened to them, their opinion on something, something they saw or heard etc.).
Any player can tag Player1 at any player moment and take Player1's place in the centre.
When tagging themselves in a player must tell their own story that relates to something Player1 has been talking about, ideally something relating to Player1's last 5 words).
Player1 should continue talking until tagged.
If Player1's story reaches it's natural conclusion before they are tagged, they should segue into another related story.
Sometimes people want to hear an interesting story play out, or want to push a player by not tagging them out.
Other times it becomes very quickfire, with players only getting 1 or 2 words out before being tagged.

Example:
P1: On the way here today I saw this homeless guy on ... *tagged*
P2: I once took a homeless guy for dinner we went to ... *tagged*
P3: For dinner I had bangers and mash, which is one of my favourite things to eat. I especially like it with cabbage, dark green cabbage and rich gravy. These were Cumberland sausages, but I prefer Lincolnshire sausages. Where ... *tagged*
P1: I grew up in Lincolnshire, though not in Lincoln. Been there a few nights on acid though, great place to go tripping.
... and so on.

Thanks man.

To clarify we didn't come up with most of these games, though we have fashioned a few of our own. There are a lot of games out there. Through the weeks and months we've found that some are infinitely better at producing humour and enhancing Social Awesomeness than others. This is a selection of our favourite games. Tried, tested and approved by the Manchester scene.

Totally. I've often left at the end of the night with aches from laughing and smiling so much, which is a beautiful thing. Fun is best ever.

Hmm well there's one game that you can play by yourself.....

"Is it wrong for a man to love his guitar?"

"It is if he puts his balls between the strings, and strums himself to ecstasy!"
