Mixed set 3 girls (HB5, 6, 6) and two guys: I walked up to the group, and the girl to my left (HB5) said “Hi.” I responded in kind. I opened with a situational opener (the 6s were drinking from a Belgian glass) with: “I’m sorry but I must say, the Belgian pints show a high level of sophistication. “ The HB5 to my left got really jealous and wanted attention. I actively dismissed her. She tried to shit test me by saying “How about mine” (miller light). There was someone that asked me “where are you from” … went on about the “many places” bit. The dismissed girl got even more envious. I introduced my friend to them, and he ended up trying to manage her and got blew out (wasn't really a big deal). Eventually it got to where one of the girls with the Belgian glass mentioned that she had lived in Belgian. I did a disqualification with: “usually I would find that very attractive, but I have a feeling that you and I wouldn’t work out.” The HB5 cranked it up and was challenging me why it wouldn’t work out. I responded with “She’s got an odd vibe..” and was interrupted. The HB6s were a bit taken back, and the 5 was throwing a fit by saying: “what where you trying to do entering our social circle like this… are you trying to make friends?” She tried to push me out of the group, and I replied with “woah woah.. hands off the merchandise.. usually people have to pay for that.” She moved the girls away. To avoid being “blown off” I started a new conversation with the guys from the group [that were on my right] I can’t how they were attached to the girls.

The girl wasn't really the mother hen type, but ended up acting like one at the end. The guys really didn't participate in the conversation.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I don't think there was much I could do about the girl to my left.

A little too cocky and too many negs in my opinion. 5-6's don't need negging that hard, it can backfire as they might be feeling insecure already with other hotter girls in the vicinity. No need to go in with that attitude and put them down, just be yourself.

Before I got to the group there was a person sized gap where I was standing. My intention wasn't really to stay as long as I did... hell with that opener it doesn't really create conflict or start conversations.

@the negs bit... you're dead on... its human nature. I really didn't want to complement them again with the girl that said she had been to London twice (she also said that earlier in the conversation) and studied abroad in Beligum. I actually like Belgium.

The attention was pretty much focused on me and it was a group of 5 with two guys. I really wanted to find out how the guys and the girls were related.

The 5 basically got worse and worse throughout the conversation. The 6s were really presonable and pleasant. I talked with the other one after she dragged her friends away. He was a pretty cool bloke.

If you were to compare sizes the 5 was the thinnest.

Basically the intent of the post was to get some advice on the 5. She was relentless. Basically she was trying to take the attention of the entire group. I don't really buy into one method over another ... the "where did you find her" was used because I really don't know of any better way to handle a girl that attempts to overpower a conversation and take away from the group.

If you have suggestions on alternatives to the line "where did you find her" please make them. I'm uninterested in banter about whos method is best arguements.

I think following routines and using canned lines can be useful at the beginning as a way of getting your foot in the door but don't get stuck in them. When you get as good as Phil and Kowalski you can just drop them completely and go freestyle.

You have to mess up a lot to figure out what does and doesn't work. I don't think negging has ever got me laid. It may have satisfied me to do it sometimes just when someone has been rude to me.

I like some of the things that Mystery says but you have to take it with a pinch of salt. There are also a lot of things in there which I would never do. It's overly technical and a bit robotic. Also, you must bear in mind that it was created in Hollywood for women who are up their own arses.

If you are going to use routines, use ones that are congruent with your personality. I am very interested in psychology so I use riddles. Quite often the group have some of their own and I get to learn a new one.

I play the cube a lot. I do it because I genuinely like it and would do that sort of thing anyway, even if it were not for pick up. But it just so happens to have the added benefit of creating connection.

I also tell a lot of stories (I have a lot to tell. I've had a very interesting life). If you are a funny guy and like comedy, learn some jokes and tell them. You can even use them as openers.
