Well I just found out my parents are moving house.

Its quite local to where I am.. but the street, DOESN'T HAVE CABLE BROADBAND

I use my 20mb connection to its maximum in non-peak times

Now we will have to switch to fucking Bt with their UP TO 0.0000002 mb connection.

how do you use it to its maximum? you running a website from your house or something?

Okay I exaggerated a little...

I download music, films games and software at 20MB whenever I want.

The fastest speed on this street we're moving to is 2MB.

This only gives me more fuelled incentive to wana get out ASAP and find my own place!!

I can remember dial up 3.5 k/s maximum download speed. assuming 2mb means megabits and not bytes I actually get up to the same speed from my mobile dongle although I'm limited to 15gb a month.

Yeah, I get 2Mb from my mobile when I tether it via USB..

is cable broadband just not on your road or the area completely.
if its just not on your road. A colleague at work had the same problem all he did was set up ten or so emails and enquire apparently if they get a certain amount the will install it on your road.
This was years ago thou don't know if they still do new installs.

Well the road I will be moving to, does not have cable services at all, only BT phone lines...

But the main road that links to that road, does have cable services. with 20Mb according to virgin media.

So theoretically, its easy enough for them to do. Just probably not cost effective. Mobile dongles are slow, BT lines are slow, and its not even close to a town to get new fibre...

I will take a look at making some random enquiries to them about that street and see what happens

I'm thinking of buying a wireless receiver from DealExtreme, they have like 3KM distance on some of them... Just break some wep keys, and see what happens

only issue with that is if you get on some hackers network you could be in serious trouble but it's likely. If I knew about those things that would have saved me £15 a month I thought that you can only receive a signal if it's in range?

Most of my friends either have girlfriends, or live with parents, or are at Uni in other towns...

And yeah thats true, I need some weatherproof, solar powered always on wireless extenders lol..
