Stiff upper lip -

It's supposed to be symbolic of British people.
It could just be the area I've grown up in, or perhaps the era - but I've always found my compatriots to be a set of complete whinging bastards. Particularly my generation. The older generation are slightly better, until their dealing with our generation, which they whinge about quite well.
Maybe during War we've got a stiff upper lip. Maybe this is thought because we're unlike America and that we don't "blow our own trumpet" as much as they do. But in peace-time and times of economic stability - we're whinging bastards.
