Default The Powerful Now - 18-05-2009, 08:35 PM

I came upon a realization recently, The kind of thing I always thought I grasped. But until recently I never fully grasped the vastness of it.

You, I'm very sure are reading this now. There is no other time to read this. There is no other time to do anything. There is only now. We can only experience now. We can’t live the future just as much as we can relive the past. All we have is this moment now.

It seems so obvious yet so alien. The only life we live is here in the present. The good memories you've had in the past they were in the present at the time and you'd hope the future you want for yourself will come to fruition in the present too.

What does that mean? Well if you want something, it can’t be in the past, you have to accept what comes and deal with it now. It also means more significantly you can’t have it in the future unless you do something about it now.

There is no "well maybe I'll be in the mood tomorrow and then I'll talk to that girl" Unless you make what you want a part of your life now. It will never happen. All you’re doing is putting it off and you will never have it.

In my past I know, Ive been far too stuck in my own head. Thinking about all the times I need to learn from and what I want from the future that I forget the actual time to actually do something about it is now. The more you put what you want in the future the less and less chance you will actually have of getting it.

Instead of trying to remember memories of memories of the past or creating an imagined future that will have little play on how you act. Be now. Experience now. Accept everything that’s in your environment, Accept the situation your in, do what you want while your there.

Until you make what you want a part of your life now then you will never experience it.

You will never experience a yesterday. You will never experience a Tomorrow.

Your Life Is Now.

Totally, deceptively simple.

i have been studying his teachings for a while.

my life has improved dramatically. i know my mind can be at times my own worst enemy!

its hard tho, to just be present, and not be present while 'wanting' to be present. your mind is the wanting bit. which totally defeats the purpose.

there are many teachings pointing towards the now, adayashanti (sp?) is another. do a google for eckhart tolle forum, loads of info about it all. really is great.

i reached the feat aswell, of watching my emotions. this isn't just the bad emotions, this is the good emotions also. the emotions felt after something external happens. the something that gives you the 'high' that eventually wears off and leaves you craving for more.

the ego has complete control over me really, and slowly im starting to get my ground back.

great book. he has done other work aswell, i hope to read some of that soon.

Reading his book NOW. Brilliant although the concept is difficult to grasp. "Watching the Thinker", focussing your attention into the NOW", "learning to disidentify from your mind" - all alien concepts but it makes sense. I want to be "enlightened"!!

Much Success!!

For those who is familliar with The Powerful Now, am I right to say that Tolle’s basic tools are:

1. Just watch but don’t engage any thoughts of past or future the moment they arise in your mind.

2. Just watch but don’t engage any thoughts which resist something that is happening now.

3. Just watch any emotion that arises within you the moment it arises.

4. Keep at least some of your attention in your inner body at all times, in the NOW. Feel the aliveness within you.

Simple concept, hard to grasp & practice.

Much Success!

yes legend.

i have not reached any historic stage yet on my path but the common conception is TO NOT COMPLICATE THINGS. DO NOT strive for enlightenment either, as striving is living in the future and not the present.

i loved this post. please read it http://eckhart-tolle-forum.inner-gro...php?f=5&t=3761 the last 4 paragraphs especially seem beautiful.

often i try and think about it all, but then i remember, the mind cannot understand it all. it is beyond the mind.
