Instead of responding defensively, thus further confirming Adam's point, when you recieve advice off guys like Adam who (although he wouldn't admit it) have a much greater understanding of this stuff than most meditate a little on their words and see what value can be taken from them.

Adam's statement was terse but well measured.

I know I'm not insecure (nor self conscious), so for somebody who doesn't know me to tell me I'm insecure - doesn't really make sense. At least to me.

And to be an arse, it wasn't really advice - more of a warm reading.

Or ... you could respond like that and split hairs. Adam is ADVISING you that in his opinion your post came across as insecure.

Look, on a forum like this people have nothing but the content and structure of your posts to work with. So to ask for advice, recieve it, then say it doesn't make sense for people to have formed an opinion of you as they don't know you is odd. If you think we don't know enough to advise then you should have told us more before asking for advice. Your response kinda undermines this:
It is not a slight on your character you'll find we are mostly trying to be helpful even if sometimes it doesn't come out quite right. Everything is cool.

That's all that matters. If one man assumes you are 'what you are not' from reading something you've written then maybe mull it over... but hey, if you are certain they're wrong then bollocks to it. If there is doubt then face up to it.

I agree with K. We are all here to give constructive advice and sometimes have to face up to our own flaws to push ourselves forward. We are all here to help one another, this is why I love this forum
