Is the PU industry just one big dildo?

Is the PUA Forum just one big Placebo?

I think that PUA material has brought lots of interesting and useful ideas forward, its just annoying that its generally marketed as a "magic bullet". But you see the same phenomena in other sorts of stuff on the web like e-books claiming to be able to teach you to play any steve via guitar solo with one finger in 5 minutes or develop get a van damme physique in 2 months.

I agree with your post, but at the same time PU helped me at a time when I had near-zero confidence.

It has offered some signposts towards improving myself, and for that I am thankful.

It's all good saying 'just go out there and do it', but sometimes people need a base from which to start.

Another thing to consider with PUA material is that as a general skill, seducing women requires learning concepts that are for many people "non intuitive truths". For example the idea that a women would be more attracted to someone who teases them and disagrees with them rather than someone who goes out of their way to be be nice polite and agree with everything they say, is not something that the vast majority of men would discover on their own.

Its interesting as I see parallels with my day job, which is coaching software development teams. I have to persuade people that (among other things) two people working on the same bit of code at the same computer is more productive than them both working on different things separately.

To paraphrase David DeAngelo, dating/approaching women problems usually have much deeper roots than are first apparent to the guy looking to improve his game. Without the deeper changes - the commitment to address those mental blocks - then anything you learn can only be superficial. Pick up, imo, boils down to taking responsibility for yourself as well as confidence.

That said you can suffer information overload. Too many gurus teaching too many techniques that differ wildly. Plus you may feel you have an awful lot about yourself to fix. Too many guys can get stuck in the loop of "Well I'll fix that thing first, and that will give me the confidence I need - no wait, then I'll have to do that as well..."

Study materials tell you how to get confidence. They don't give you it. Experience gives you confidence.
