cha, you are looking at a magic pill about either being evasive and mysterious, or confident and upfront. You need to be you and do what you find most comfortable. If however you are comfortable with yourself in that you don't take rejection personally, then there is no harm in being upfront.
Both ways work for different reasons and different people. I like to be upfront. I continue to be upfront even in a relationship, I am the same, before during and after.
There is no game, you just have to have fun...
