Default Story Tag - 14-09-2009, 12:27 PM

Of all the games we play at Improv the one I think is most appropriate for being social is Story Tag. This is a great game to play with your mates before going out as it gets you thinking in the right way.

To play Story Tag:
Get everyone in a circle.
One person goes into the middle and starts to tell a true story on any topic.
When the storyteller says a word or phrase that another player has a story about, the second player tags the storyteller out and begins to tell their own story.

This can be pretty quickfire and often the storyteller only getting a couple of words out before they are tagged out.

It teaches you how easy it is to vibe off another persons random chat and come back with a relevant story of your own. The only difference between this game and just being social with a new friend is often in a real social situation you allow the other to actually finish their story before starting yours. Don't be restricted by this idea though. Sure it is the done thing to allow people to finnish before taking over. However, cutting off a boring conversation and riffing into something more fun / interesting shows leadership and keeps the interaction from going stale with lame conversation. Just don't cut them off on everything they say.

Peace,

kowalski

Awesome game, I didn't think of it in the way you describe for real world use. I think i've been doing it subconsciously recently and I think it's because of all the improv i've been going to has started filtering through.

My problem is I talk too much and interrupt myself - if that makes sense. I could talk to myself all day.

I interrupt myself too and tangent all the time. I need to keep asking people what the point I was trying to get across was so I can find my way back.

Peace,

kowalski

I'm exactly the same mate. Lots of tangents, lots of threads; it's all about being in the convo zone! Keeps people interested and as long as you're comfortable with your situation then it's so natural.

Direct game is game with all the games taken out.
